Trump called the situation at the U.S. southern border crazy

Former U.S. President Donald Trump called the situation on the country’s southern border crazy.

“A massive invasion on our southern border has no precedent anywhere else in the world. It’s absolute insanity,” Trump said.

U.S. President Joe Biden said the government expects chaos at the border after the repeal of a legislative rule (“Section 42”) that allowed migrants to be deported to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The rule was introduced by Trump in March 2020. That provision ceased to be in effect on Friday night, with hundreds of migrants held on U.S. soil in El Paso, Texas, between a barbed-wire fence and a border wall, waiting for U.S. immigration authorities to remove them from there to go through registration procedures.

Historically, a record number of migrants arrived at the U.S. southern border under the Biden administration, exceeding 2.3 million in 2021 and 2022. For fiscal year 2023, U.S. authorities reported more than 1.2 million migrants.
