US President Donald Trump said that if Mexico does not help solve the problem of illegal immigrants, the US will impose duties on cars or close the border.
“Mexico understands that we’re going to close the border or I’m going to tariff the cars. I’ll do one or the other. And probably start off with the tariffs …. I don’t think we’ll ever have to close the border because the penalty of tariffs on cars coming into the United States from Mexico, at 25%, will be massive,” Trump told reporters at the White House during a meeting of his cabinet.
He noted that in Mexico “strong immigration law”, and Washington needs the help of Mexico in resolving the situation on the border.
