Two passenger planes collided at Boston airport

Two United Airlines aircraft collided at Boston International Airport (Massachusetts) on Monday in preparation for departure.

The collision between the two Boeing-737s occurred near the gate area. As the plane was being towed to Newark, New Jersey, its right wing struck the tail of a flight that was preparing to depart for Denver, Colorado.

No passengers were injured in the collision. “They left both planes as normal. Arrangements have been made to get them to their destination on other planes,” United Airlines said in a statement.

On the same day, a Massachusetts resident attempted to open the emergency exit door and attacked a flight attendant with a broken spoon while flying aboard a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston, he was detained and charged, the local DOJ office said. The flight crew was alerted to the passenger’s actions about 45 minutes before boarding. One of the flight attendants spotted him at the door and saw him trying to open it.

“Shortly thereafter, Torres allegedly got up from his seat and approached the starboard door, where two flight attendants were standing. One of them saw Torres mutter something, but what exactly, he could not hear. Torres then allegedly went toward one of the flight attendants with a broken metal spoon, striking the flight attendant three times in the neck area. Passengers grabbed Torres and held him down with the help of crew members. Upon arrival of the flight to Boston, Torres was immediately taken into custody,” the statement said.

The man is charged with one count of “tampering” and “attempting to interfere with crew members and flight attendants with a dangerous weapon.” He faces up to life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the charges combined.
