Italian fashion house found a way to hide people from facial recognition systems

Facial recognition technology is increasingly being introduced into everyday life. Authorities in many countries argue that it is necessary to improve the safety of citizens. But there will always be those who, for whatever reason, do not want their faces recognized. The problem, on which the best minds of the planet are fighting, was solved by the fashion house Capable from Italy.

Designers paid attention to the logic of the recognition systems. They use a database of photos and compare each captured face with it until there is a match. And what if you pass off a person as an animal? That’s the idea they implemented in their new clothing collection. The key element that unites all things was the incredibly bright and colorful coloring. Due to this, most recognition systems “believe” that this is an animal and not a person.

Of course, you can always hide from the cameras simply by wearing a mask. But Capable clothing allows you to “stay in the shadows” without hiding your face. Any government or large corporation could train AI to recognize people in these brightly colored images, so it’s hard to call the technology sustainable. But they most likely do not need to do this – the cost of any item from the “bright” Capable collection is in the hundreds of euros. It is unlikely that such clothing will become mass, because very few people will be able to afford it to hide from the cameras.
