American tanks arrive in Europe
A large number of U.S. tanks and combat vehicles have begun arriving at the port of Flissingen in the Netherlands, after which they will be shipped to Poland and Lithuania as part of an effort to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.
“About 1,250 pieces of equipment are arriving in this port,” said Col. Robert Kellam, who oversees the operation on the U.S. side.
Among the incoming vehicles are M-1 Abrams tanks and Bardley Fighting Vehicles from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, based in Ford Hood, Texas.
The Dutch Armed Forces are helping provide maritime security and securing the port area where the vehicles will be deployed before heading east.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, NATO is reinforcing its battle groups in countries from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the south.
