Hundreds of journalists and other workers at the New York Times held a 24-hour strike, the first of its kind in more than 40 years.
The strike began at 00:01 a.m. Thursday.
The striking journalists and editors planned to rally outside the newspaper’s newsroom, while the company had to rely on non-union workers to continue covering the news.
Members of the NewsGuild of New York said they were tired of the negotiations that have been dragging on since March 2021, when the previous contract ended.
Negotiations continued Tuesday and Wednesday, but the sides did not reach an agreement on issues such as wage levels, remote work policies and others.
