The U.S. will build three nuclear reactors in Poland

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken welcomed the Polish government’s decision to choose Westinghouse as a technology partner to build three U.S.-developed nuclear reactors.

“This agreement will ensure a strategic energy partnership between the United States and Poland for decades to come and is a watershed moment in strengthening European energy security,” Blinken said in a statement posted on the State Department website.

The U.S. has pledged to work with Poland to promote the production of safe, clean and reliable nuclear energy. As NATO allies, the U.S. and Poland already cooperate closely on a range of security and defense issues.

“This project is also an important step forward in our global fight against climate change,” Blinken said in a statement. – Once in operation, the reactors are projected to prevent CO2 emissions of 26 million tons per year and to demonstrate that we can enhance our energy security while protecting the environment at the same time.”

Through close cooperation between the U.S. and Polish governments, joint innovative financial and technical solutions have been developed to meet Poland’s clean energy needs and ensure the project’s financial viability.

The project will create thousands of well-paying jobs in both countries.
