Arizona and Nevada will face water supply cuts due to drought

U.S. federal officials said that two U.S. states that depend on water from the Colorado River will face additional water supply cuts amid an extreme drought.

The announcement, affecting Arizona and Nevada, came as officials predicted that water levels in Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States, would drop even more than previously thought.

Reduced water supplies will force authorities in those states to prepare for a hotter, drier future.

Mexico will also face water supply cuts.

The river serves 40 million people in the western U.S. and northern Mexico and is also a key source of water for farmers.
