Italian Parliament called for tougher sanctions against Russia

Roberto Fico, chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament, called for tougher sanctions against Russia in connection with the recent events in Ukraine and, in particular, suggested thinking about refusing to buy Russian oil.

“I think the sanctions should be carried out further in the toughest way. In Italy there is a search for the property of all Russian oligarchs, serious operations were carried out yesterday. It is necessary to continue on this path and also to think about blocking oil imports,” said Fico.

Bank of Italy’s financial information unit demanded that the country’s bank operators report within 30 days on measures to freeze the assets of Russian individuals and institutions caught in the latest EU sanctions against Russia.

Then it became known about the freezing of assets of a number of Russian citizens, in particular, businessmen Alisher Usmanov, Alexei Mordashov and Gennady Timchenko, former State Duma deputy Oleg Savchenko and TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov.
