Trade organization urged the White House to consider exceptions to sanctions against Russia

A trade organization representing Chevron, General Electric and other major U.S. corporations doing business in Russia has asked the White House to explore the possibility of giving U.S. companies additional time to meet their commitments and exclude certain goods when developing sanctions in connection with Russia’s actions against Ukraine.

The Joe Biden administration and Congress should “get the details right if sanctions are implemented,” said National Foreign Trade Council President Jake Colvin.

“Those details should include consideration of safe harbors or wind-down periods to allow companies to honor existing contracts and obligations, as well as provide exemptions for life-saving medicines and other points of humanitarian concern, consistent with U.S. policy,” Colvin added.
