Japan and the United States conducted joint exercises with nuclear-powered aircraft carriers
Large joint exercises of the Maritime Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the U.S. Navy were held on January 17-22 south of Okinawa.
Ten ships, including the nuclear-powered aircraft carriers Carl Vinson and Abraham Lincoln, took part in the exercise on the U.S. side. The Japanese side was represented by the “Hyuga” class helicopter carrier.
According to the NHK channel, the exercise was intended to emphasize the cohesion of Japan and the U.S. in the region against the background of China’s increasing activity at sea.
