Microsoft will disable passwords on Windows computers

Microsoft has developed a new way to protect data on computers running Windows. The password-free unlock feature was announced by the company itself.

Users are offered to forgo the traditional password to protect their account – to make it work, they need to install the Microsoft Authenticator application on their smartphone.

With the software installed, users need to go to their Microsoft account, log in and select additional security options. In the section will be an option “Account without a password,” which must be activated. This will automatically unlock the computer if a trusted mobile device is nearby.

The feature will be available on Windows 10 and 11. The full release of the latter is scheduled for October 5: Users around the world will be able to upgrade computers if they meet Microsoft requirements.
